Character is what you think honestly about yourself and reputation is what others think of you, which may NOT be entirely correct and often completely wrong. Personality is what you flaunt outside that essentially should actually reflect your Character.
Character has been defined by many in various ways. Character is essentially a conscious process on the part of the individual, an act of building himself/herself; a brick by brick process; a sum total of one's thoughts, actions and habits.
Character Building happens in an unconscious way also up to a certain age. It is a result of the effect of upbringing in the family; influence of society, friends, surroundings and circumstances.
But once a human being cataches up to his own imagination and sets one's own goal, now it is a conscious process to make himself/herself to align with that set goal. So Character is essentially a process of tuning one's self in line with the set Goal. According to Spirituality, the Real Goal of any human being is to evolve to the Highest, call it God, Divine, LOVE, or anything. God IS LOVE, it is said. So one has to continue his/her own moulding endlessly till we are reach this LOVE that we call God. It has nothing to do one's age.
And the LOVE that we call as God includes ALL the values such as human values, cosmic values, spiritual values necessary for our spiritual growth. All the values that we can think of, such as Faith, Tolerance, Patience, Compassion, Forgiveness, Perseverance, Surrender etc., happen to us in our process of our tuning with this LOVE.
As I said it should be a conscious process. If for any reason this is stopped, we are going against our own evolution.
What is the NEED for Character Building?
It is an accepted fact and some of us do also innately FEEL the Presence of the Divine within, the Bright Flame of LOVE that is within. Character is to be refined to the extent that this Flame is reflected as it IS. It is like the cleaning of the glass that surrounds the flame inside that is full of soothe. Once it is rid of that black soothe, the bright flame inside is reflected as it IS.
This is solely the role of human being to play. And God has NO role in it. Character building is a way of minimizing your "self" and maximizing God or Love within. This is the ultimate NEED of developing the Character in oneself. In this process all that is required for harmanious living of human beings and universal brotherhood follow by default.
Character Building is a challenging pursuit that reflects Godly Presence within and makes "I", ALMOST disappear. It should be a continuous pursuit until the end of life.
It is so true that if Character is Lost, everything is LOST.
